Yes! Lmao. Who can forget the Wendy’s training videos? On VHS, no less. When I started, I was 16 which was the year 1999 and I was shocked that they never bothered to update them from, apparently, the mid 80’s. I don’t recall this particular one, complete with Debbie Gibson impersonator, but I got my share. I remember there was a different video for each task and you had to watch them before you could start. So very, very lame.

(Am I remembering incorrectly or did one of the Wendy’s training videos feature the 1985 Bears doing the Super Bowl Shuffle? Or possibly a Super Bowl Shuffle parody? Something along those lines?)

I have a lot of stress right now and I’m really depressed. My having a car to drive isn’t working out at all because my license has been suspended… I stupidly forgot to pay a citation that was written because my tags were past due. For that minor infraction, I now have the added stress of getting my license reinstated before I can even acquire the insurance to drive another car. How long will that take? I have no idea. Getting this citation cleared is taking a long time because, since a warrant’s been issued, I have additional constable fees and I don’t even know the total sum the chiselers want from me. The constable in question hasn’t been able to return my phone calls. I suppose the even bigger problem is that I can’t get to work and I don’t know how much patience my boss will have with me. I don’t know how much more personal or vacation leave I’ll have left before I just run out. I could quite actually lose my job over this.

I hate feeling like I have no control over my life. I know that’s hypocritical and stupid, given that this situation is entirely my fault… my family has already been supportive of me and it’s nothing but my own negligence has created the nightmare I’m in now, but it’s a shame that a couple mistakes could ruin everything. That’s how it goes. Feeling like everything is slipping away makes me feel weak and powerless. I had horrible nightmares last night where this guy who bullied me in junior high and high school moved into the apartment next door and kept aggravating me and playing awful, childish pranks until it got to a point where my apartment was empty because he had stolen everything I own. Really absurd but this was a dream, keep in mind. I had to call the police because he had crossed a line… they had to chase him into the woods but he escaped and I could never be totally sure he wasn’t just around the corner the next day. After I got all my stuff back, my apartment was full of things that I don’t even own in real life and my subconscious was telling me that they were family heirlooms or something. I woke up feeling ill at ease and kind of sick.

I hate complaining to anyone specific, let alone publicly. I worry it’s a weakness to whine and people will lose respect for me or not like me if I pity myself. I don’t know what else to do but write, though. It’s the only catharsis I have.

This image, by Frank Miller, was the first thing I ever Tumbled. It was a good indication of things to come. September 1st, 2007 feels like a lifetime ago… thanks to everyone who has made Tumblr the best thing I’ve ever done with an internet connection. It’s meant more to me than you know.

Incidentally, Tumblr was founded in 2007 so I think that makes me OG. Who else, among those reading this, was around way back in the inaugural year?
