staff:

We just pushed a few small updates to beta:

  • You can now reblog any post as a Text post, Link, or Quote.
  • If you prefer browsing Photo thumbnails in your Dashboard (or just need to be discreet at work), you can uncheck “Show full size photos” on your Preferences screen.
  • Based on this clever Dashboard hack, nested blockquotes now get darker, making them easier to differentiate.

That clears up the “giant photo” situation. And I like the fact that nested blockquotes will be more obvious.

My only concern about the constant development is that I’m paranoid Team Tumblr will go overboard and turn my beautiful, simple blogging platform into an unusable eyesore, complicated and cluttered with dozens of random buttons that have no necessary function.

No, it hasn’t happened, and yes, I have absolute faith that it won’t, but there’s a part of my brain that gravitates toward the “slippery slope” theory. When I start seeing New features! New features! New features! in the development blog, I flash back to WordPress, the developers of which are so overambitious they forget about the elegance and usability of a simple, streamlined, uncomplicated system.

This is what makes Tumblr great and this is what makes Tumblr unique. It’s better that way.

So far, so good, however. Thumbs up!
